Written in C and C++, MySQL is popular for web applications due to the fact that it has close ties with both Ruby on Rails and PHP.

Creating databases and managing them with your HostGator hosting account is easier than it may sound.

Once you login to your domain’s control panel, simply click the icon labeled “MySQL Databases”. Set a name for the database, and after adding it simply create a user (choose username and password), and lastly add the user to your newly created database.

Once you have set up your HostGator database, you can quickly and easily manage it through phpmyadmin.

By the way, in case you were wondering how to pronounce MySQL — it is pronounced “My SQL”, not “My sequel”…
